The New Oxford Annotated Bible With Apocrypha

The New Oxford Annotated Bible With Apocrypha The New Oxford Annotated Bible With Apocrypha

Students, professors and general readers alike have relied upon The Oxford Annotated Bible for essential scholarship and guidance to the world of the Bible for nearly four decades. Now a new editorial board and team of contributors have completely updated this classic work. The result is a volume which maintains and extends the excellence the Annotated's users have come to expect, bringing new insights, information, and approaches to bear upon the understanding of the text of the Bible.

The new edition includes a full index to all of the study material (not just to the annotations), and one that is keyed to page numbers, not to citations. And, to make certain points in the text clearer for the reader, there are approximately 40 in-text, line drawing maps and diagrams.

With the best of the Annotated's traditional strengths, and the augmentation of new information and new approaches represented in current scholarship, the Third Edition will serve as the reader's and student's constant resource for a new century.

The Apocryphal New Testament: A Collection of Apocryphal Christian Literature in an English Translation

The Apocryphal New Testament: A Collection of Apocryphal Christian Literature in an English Translation The Apocryphal New Testament: A Collection of Apocryphal Christian Literature in an English Translation

From the Back Cover This collection of apocryphal texts supersedes the best-selling edition by M. R. James, which was originally published in 1924, and regularly reprinted. Several new texts have come to light since 1924 and the textual base for some of the apocrypha previously translated by James is now more secure, as in several cases there are recently published critical editions available. Although a modest appendix to James's edition was added in 1953, no thorough revision has previously been undertaken. In this volume, J. K. Elliott presents new translations of the texts and has provided each of them with a short introduction and bibliography directed to those who wish to pursue further the issues raised in the texts, or to consult the critical editions, other versions, or general studies. The translations are in modern English, in contrast to James's deliberate imitation of the language of the Authorized Version. The collection is designed to give readers the most important and famous of the Christian apocrypha, together with a select sample of gnostic texts. Full translations of the earliest texts are printed.

The Complete Dead Sea Scrolls in English

The Complete Dead Sea Scrolls in English The Complete Dead Sea Scrolls in English

From Library Journal

This one-volume translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls joins those of Florentino Garcia Martinez (The Dead Sea Scrolls Translated, Eerdman's, 1996) and Michael Wise and others (The Dead Sea Scrolls: A New Translation, LJ 12/96) and is the latest edition of The Dead Sea Scrolls in English, first published in 1962. In a 90-page introduction, Vermes (emeritus, Jewish studies, Wolfson Coll., Oxford) briefly summarizes the 50-year history of scrolls research. He presents an overview of the sectarian community associated with the scrolls (whom he identifies as the Essenes), its history, and its beliefs. Though dubbed "complete" (the preface explains that "meaningless scraps or badly damaged manuscript sections are not inflicted on the reader"), Vermes's translation is generally the most selective of the three. This sometimes saves the reader from the possible frustration of line upon line of brackets and ellipses, but it gives a limited idea of the extent of the textual material available. However, the translation is good and has stood as the standard for many years. As with Bibles, libraries should have more than one version of the Dead Sea Scrolls.?Craig W. Part VII

A Relevant Abduction Experience

Last in this series, I am including a brief article written by an obviously very devout Mormon young man regarding his perspective on some of his own recent abduction experiences. Some may find it relevant to this topic.

MY THIRD AND FINAL ENCOUNTER

It was the Thanksgiving of 1992, my grandmother and uncle had come up for Thanksgiving dinner and to spend the day with us. During the day my grandmother started talking to me about aliens for some reason and I started telling her of the things I had seen when I was little.

Then that night I remember being awaken by a noise, I first noticed that my computer monitor was reflecting a bright green light and then my whole room was filled with a bright green light. My first thought was, "Oh know, there back!" Then I again was paralyzed as it had happened to me when I was twelve. But I was looking out my bedroom window and I stared face to face with a Watcher and there were two more behind him, I tried to yell but again my jaw was tight and my tongue was stiff. It just looked at me with those scary big black eyes liked it looked into my soul, I felt evil and fear, I'm surprised I didn't release my bowels! Then the light consumed me and I was drawn out of my bed into the light.

While this was happening I was praying in my head and all of a sudden i was walking down the street in front of my house with an angel. I looked over to my bedroom window and saw the three beings still at my windows hovering above the ground in a bright green beam of light which seemed to be coming from nowhere. The angel stayed by my side and protected me. I tried to cast the Watchers or small grey aliens away with my priesthood but they were still there. I was so angry, the things that had made my life miserable since I was a child now there within my view, and I saw how weak they were, how small. And I thought "These beings so small, yet there power is enough to stop me in my tracks."

But this time I was free, this time I could harm them and I did. I ran to one and grabbed it by the neck and started to strangle it and I could feel its spine coming through the back of its neck as it let out a horrible screeching noise. The angel just stood by as I went into a rampage and killed all three of them. They were so fragile. The angel smiled as if I had done the right thing.

And we then proceeded to lay the dead bodies on the lawn. Then a light or conduit from the sky actually transported them into small balls of light and took them away. So I have no evidence that I actually killed them. We, the angel and I then entered the house, and in the kitchen were three more Watchers. One came up to me with a long shiny metal rod which seemed to have a laser beam coming out it. The Watcher stuck it in the left side of my neck and it stung really bad and then I couldn't move, so the angel touched me and I could move again, I then immediately punched the alien square in the face breaking its neck and killing it instantly, the angel had already finished off the other two, and these Watchers or small grey aliens were again taken up into a beam of light in the same manner as before.

Then the angel covered my eyes and then uncovered my eyes and I was all of a sudden on top of a large mountain looking down over a large valley filled with Watchers and strange looking humans and their spacecraft. Then I saw hundreds of people dressed in white walking on the mountain with us as if they had come to watch. And then a voice from heaven said,

"Behold, these evil ones have perverted the ways of the Lord and deceived many and fornicated with my children. They shall have no place in my kingdom nor in this world to come."

And then a fire came down from the sky and consumed all the beings and all the strange humans and all the UFOs and nothing was left. The angel then spoke saying I had seen enough and he again placed his hand over my eyes. I awoke from my bed and it was morning.

Later in that year even in the same month I noticed a scar in the shape of a circle that I never had before. I couldn't recall how it got there but one day when my mom asked me how it got there I had a flashback of when the alien stuck that silver rod in my neck. Now I had proof that I've seen them!

Two years later I told my Stake President about the Watchers and he told me that they were indeed Angels of Satan created by him.

From what I have learned through my studies is that in ancient times, angels were sent to warn the earth about the flood of Noah, but they themselves became wicked and fornicated with women and created terrible offspring. They taught them all the secrets and powers of heaven. These things are recorded in the Book of Enoch but not accepted as canonized scripture. The earth was cleansed during the flood but the angels were cast down inside the earth and they remain there to this day. They not having their veils over their memories as we have, have great knowledge beyond ours and their technology is far more advanced, they have even learned how to travel at the speed of light. It is through Satanic science that they genetically alter humans and create more small grey aliens and Watchers.

Even Humanoid type clones have been made, mostly called the "Men in Black" who have been reported to visit abductees shortly after they saw aliens. I was once awakened one night at my grandmothers house to see a large man dressed in a black suit and a tall hat looking down at me and then I just passed out or fell back to sleep.

But everything is okay now, I hold the Melchizdek Priesthood and have not had any problems with the Watchers since, my life is finally content and happy. I've talked with other people who claim to have been abducted but they refuse to believe the truth about them. One man in particular who was a friend of my uncle's had many experiences with the Watchers.

He would wake up at night with suction marks all over his back and his underwear would be on backwards. He went to a hypnotist and remembered everything that happened. The Watchers started visiting him when he was ten years old and they always treated him nice, he says. But at first he was scared and couldn't move. He told me that they had intercourse with him and that they produced a half bred alien-human and showed him the fetus and then later showed him the child. He has a whole journal full of pictures he drew, unfortunately he has moved to Hawaii and I have lost all contact with him. He told me he was going to join a New Age religion and that the doctrines were set more on that the Watchers were good and that they are only warning us of the world going to be destroyed but I also know this is a false teaching of Satan.

One time I had a dream that some watchers took me aboard their space craft and went into outer-space. I looked down through a window and saw the earth. Instantly we were hovering over a town in the western United States and went off into a deserted area. The ship lowered and the ground opened up and they took me to an underground city. I was taken to a very large watcher who sat in a throne. His face was creepy, it was similar to that of a man's and an alien. He promised great knowledge and power if I would accept their beliefs. I said no and continued to refuse. He wasn't mad at me but just hung his head and said "So be it."

Then as two small grey aliens escorted me back to the ship one of them telepathically asked me if I was sure I didn't want to believe them and gain their powers. I told it this "I am a servant of Jesus Christ, I hold the priesthood, that is all the power I need!" I then don't remember much else after that conversation and this was the last time I ever saw the Watchers.

Disclaimer:
Some material presented will contain links, quotes, ideologies, etc., the contents of which should be understood to first, in their whole, reflect the views or opinions of their editors, and second, are used in my personal research as "fair use" sources only, and not espousement one way or the other. Researching for 'truth' leads one all over the place...a piece here, a piece there. As a researcher, I hunt, gather and disassemble resources, trying to put all the pieces into a coherent and logical whole. I encourage you to do the same. And please remember, these pages are only my effort to collect all the pieces I can find and see if they properly fit into the 'reality aggregate'.

Personal Position

Personal Position:
I've come to realize that 'truth' boils down to what we 'believe' the facts we've gathered point to. We only 'know' what we've 'experienced' firsthand. Everything else - what we read, what we watch, what we hear - is what someone else's gathered facts point to and 'they' 'believe' is 'truth', so that 'truth' seems to change in direct proportion to newly gathered facts divided by applied plausibility. Though I believe there is 'truth', until someone representing the celestial realm visibly appears and presents the heavenly records of Facts And Lies In The Order They Happened, I can't know for sure exactly what "the whole truth' on any given subject is, and what applies to me applies to everyone. Until then I'll continue to ask, "what does The Urantia Book say on the subject?"

"Nave's Topical Bible, " the best known of all topical bibles, has been a valuable Bible-study reference and a best-seller for more than 75 years. It is a comprehensive digest of over 20,000 topics and subtopics with more than 100,000 associated Scripture references. The most significant references for each topic actually include the full text of the verse cited saving the need to separately look up each verse.

Because "Nave's "groups verses by "idea" (or "topic"), it offers a better overview of relevant Scriptures than a concordance, which only lists or indexes verses according to specific words. This edition also includes the helpful Scripture index (left out of some other editions), which makes it possible for the reader studying a particular biblical text to locate every topic and grouping of Scripture in "Nave's "whenever a particular verse is included. That way, it is possible for the reader to study either all the verses related to a particular topic "or" all the topics related to a particular verse it works both ways.

For the pastor or teacher interested in saving hours of time but not willing to give their second best, and for anyone wanting to be challenged by what God has to say about a given subject, "Nave's Topical Bible" is the passport that will allow immediate and successful entry to the many points of interest."

About the Author
