Communion: A True Story by Whitley Strieber (1988-02-01) Communion: A True Story by Whitley Strieber

Thus begins the most astonishing true-life odyssey ever recorded—one man's riveting account of his extraordinary experiences with visitors from “elsewhere” . . . how they found him, where they took him, what they did to him, and why.

Believe it. Or don't believe it. But read it—for this gripping story will move you like no other. It will fascinate you, terrify you, and alter the way you experience your world.

From School Library Journal

YA Strieber has a reputation for writing well-researched nonfiction. Were it not for this reputation, readers would be more tempted to dismiss as fantasy this account of visits he has received from a non-human group. In the winter of 198586, the visits became both more frequent and more visible. Strieber sought the help of a counselor/hypnotist, who did not accept the alien hypothesis. Eventually Strieber's wife was also hypnotized. The accounts both Striebers gave under hypnosis and the memories that surfaced after hynosis, as well as several witnesses to aspects of the visitations all corroborate that something abnormal occurred. Strieber is careful not to jump to any conclusions; in fact, he philosophizes at length about the possibilities which include aliens, an as yet unidentified aspect of the human mind, or some generally invisible earth inhabitant such as fairies. The book is fascinating as long as it sticks to the basic account, and the ways in which the Striebers chose to research the phenomena. The passages of hypothesizing are more longwinded and will be of less interest to young adults, but they do remind readers that the Striebers have not accepted a single answer to the puzzle even now. Any readers who have interest in the unexplained will appreciate this book. Dorcas Hand, Episcopal High School, Bellaire. Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Sacred Native American mound sites and rituals, the Cult of Osiris, near-death experiences, and the core of Masonic beliefs are addressed. Following the theories of Carl Jung and John Keel, Little shows how an intelligent energy from the electromagnetic energy spectrum intrudes into physical reality creating mystical and paranormal phenomena.

The Adding Machine The Adding Machine

The Adding Machine The Adding Machine

Acclaimed by Norman Mailer more than twenty years ago as "possibly the only American writer of genius," William S. Burroughs has produced a body of work unique in our time. In these scintillating essays, he writes wittily and wisely about himself, his interests, his influences, his friends and foes. He offers candid and not always flattering assessments of such diverse writers as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Joseph Conrad, Graham Greene, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Samuel Beckett, and Marcel Proust. He ruminates on science and the often dubious paths into which it seems intent on leading us, whether into outer or inner space. He reviews his reviewers, explains his famous "cut-up" method, and discusses the role coincidence has played in his life and work. As satirist and parodist, William Burroughs has no peer, as these varied works, written over three decades, amply reveal.

About the Author

William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) was the author of numerous novels, including "Naked Lunch," Nova Express," The Ticket That Exploded," The Soft Machine," and The Wild Boys." He is considered one of the twentieth century's most radical, innovative, and influential writers, and a founding member of the Beat Generation.

Abducted! The Story of the Intruders Continues... Abducted! The Story of the Intruders Continues...

From Publishers Weekly

Hopkins's 1987 book, Intruders, told the stories of two Indiana sisters, who were identified only as Kathie and Laura Davis, and their experiences with alien visitation and genetic manipulation. Here Debbie Jordan ("Kathie") and Kathy Mitchell ("Laura") go public and continue their recollections, climaxing with the account of Debbie's impregnation by a space alien in 1977 and seeing her semihuman child in 1983. But first the authors, in alternating chapters, relate incidents involving prescience, poltergiest activity, channeling, levitation, telepathy, ghostly apparitions, reincarnation, a near-death experience and a dream of walking on water. The inclusion of virtually every topic in the world of the paranornal is enough to overwhelm the credibility of even those who are open-minded on the subject. Our Haunted Planet Our Haunted Planet

Our Haunted Planet Our Haunted Planet

Since the beginning of recorded time, mankind has been plagued by unknown forces and beings, baffled by archaeological phenomena, and haunted by the inexplicable accuracy - and inaccuracy - of prophecies and "visions."

In the classic "Our Haunted Planet," John A. Keel brings into chilling focus strange truths about the earth and its mysterious inhabitants. Could an unseen, prehuman race have taken careful measures to remain hidden from surface dwellers? Are they still watching us from their secret hiding places, manipulating and misleading us, using us for their own entertainment, and controlling our actions?

"Our Haunted Planet" is an entertaining survey of anomalous "Fortean" events such as UFOs, enigmatic stone monuments, Men in Black, missing ships and aircraft, phantom radio broadcasts, teleportation, missing time, black magick, tulpas, angels, demigods, tricksters, and much more.

Unlike most ufologists, who settle on a literal interpretation of such phenomena, Keel is broad-minded and courageous enough to include all possibilities - including the impact of occultists and spies on the fields of ufology, conspiracy, and cryptozoology. Within these pages, modern "spooks" appear alongside the gods of the ancients, creating a mind-expanding pastiche that may either heal your soul, send you to the loony bin, or just keep you up all night as you ponder the meaning of its forbidden secrets.
